Singapore Management University Sports Activities

At SMU, life is not just about studying hard, we encourage you to train and play hard too. With more than 40 exciting CCA clubs under the SMU Sports Union (SSU), such as Basketball, Dragonboat, Sports Climbing, Ultimate Frisbee, Sailing and seven adventure clubs under the SMUXtremists (SMUX), we know you will find your calling in one of them.

SMUX was established in 2000 by a group of like-minded students who sought to share their passion for the outdoors with others in the Singapore Management University (SMU). Starting off with just nine individuals, SMUX has over a short period of nine years grown to become an established and respectable club within the SMU community. Currently, SMUX has a 1000-strong membership base, and is manage by a dedicated team of 15 committee members.

SSU administers a Core, Merit and Interest classification system, similar to how the National Sports Associations (NSA) and elite athletes are managed. Above all, there is also a Sports Excellence Programme (SEP) which aims to raise the standards and profiles of our student athletes, and produce sport champions in SMU through the following ways:

  • Provision of additional funding for training and facility for potential athletes, teams or sports
  • Provision of a Sports Scholarship Scheme for selected first-year undergraduate athletes

Committed athletes and teams from this programme will also be selected to represent SMU in overseas competitions to competing internationally.
