Singapore Institute of Management Admission Requirements

GRADUATE ADMISSION

Eligibility

Applicant must be a Singapore citizen, permanent resident or a resident in Singapore. In addition, you will need to meet these minimum requirements:

  1. ​An undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  2. Good communication skills (written and spoken English)
  3. At least two years of work experience in related field
  4. ​At least 21 years and above

* Note: Additional entry requirements may be applicable to some programmes.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo one or more interviews and/or take such written admission or other evaluation tests as may be prescribed by SIM University from time to time.​
The offer of admission is dependent on the number of places available in individual programmes. The decision of the Admissions Committee of SIM University is final and binding. SIM University reserves the right to refuse admission and is not obliged to offer an explanation for the non-admission of unsuccessful candidates.​
UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSION

Admission Criteria (Part-time Undergraduate Programmes)

You must be a Singapore citizen, permanent resident or a resident in Singapore. In addition, you will need to meet these minimum requirements:

  • GCE ‘A’ level with two passes (prior to 2006) or two H2 passes (from 2006), or local Polytechnic Diploma or International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or NUS High School Diploma. Applicants with an acceptable SAT1 score may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis;
  • Two years of full-time work experience, or currently employed on a full-time basis; and
  • At least 21 years old.

Some programmes may have additional requirements. Please refer to the individual programme pages for details.

In addition to the standard admission criteria for all UniSIM undergraduate programmes, applicants of ​BA English with Military Studies need to meet the following requirements:
  • At least a Grade B4 in English Language in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination, or
  • At least a Grade B4 in GCE ‘A’ Level General Paper (English), or
  • At least a Grade B4 in English Paper 121, 1120 or 1119 at SPM, or
  • At least a Grade 4 in English (for IB Diploma holders)

​Note: Applicants who do not hold these qualifications may submit an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher.​ 

Admission Criteria (Full-time Undergraduate Programmes)

Our full-time programmes cater for each individual’s growth and also create the opportunity for each to make an impact in society. More importantly, we look for individuals who want to play a part in creating a dynamic university environment.

Applicants should possess the following traits:

  • Cognition: ability to cope with rigorous curricula; agility in assessing complex situations; and clarity in constructing arguments
  • Creativity: ability to express unique and original ideas, to synthesise interdisciplinary perspectives, and to focus creative energies into constructive opinions and actions
  • Communication: ability to express ideas clearly and with civility in an unstructured and unfamiliar environment

If you are a Singaporean or Permanent Resident with at least 3 passes in H2 content subjects, and passes in GP and PW, with an attempt at a H1 contrasting subject; or a diploma from a polytechnic in Singapore with a pass in O-level English; or a diploma from an International Baccalaureate school or NUS High School, start this journey with us. SAT1 is required if you have an equivalent of any of the above qualifications.

You need to meet the following mother tongue (MTL) requirement:

GCE A Levels / NUS High School Diploma International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
  • minimum of D7 for the higher MTL paper taken at the ‘O’ Level examination
  • minimum of ‘S’ grade for the H1 MTL paper or General Studies in Chinese
  • minimum of ‘S’ grade for the H2 MTLL paper taken at the ‘A’ Level examination
  • pass in the MTL ‘B’ Syllabus paper at the ‘A’ Level examination
  • minimum of D7 for the higher MTL paper taken at the ‘O’ Level examination
  • minimum of ‘S’ grade for the H1 MTL paper or General Studies in Chinese
  • minimum of ‘S’ grade for the H2 MTLL paper taken at the ‘A’ Level examination
  • pass in the MTL ‘B’ Syllabus paper at the ‘A’ Level examination
  • pass in SL/HL MTL A or B paper taken at IBDP Examination

If you have been exempted from MTL, the MOE-approved subject-in-lieu will be considered as your MTL subject.

Applicants who have not satisfy the requirement above may be admitted on a provisional basis and will be required to attain the MTL within the period of their University study before being permitted to graduate from the University.

Male Applicants

Male applicants will have their place reserved (up to two years), if they are successful in their application.

 

English Language Proficiency Courses For All Applicants

A good command of English provides a strong platform for a learner to successfully complete a degree programme. As such, all students admitted to SIM University from the January 2016 intake (with the exception of the Chinese, Early Childhood, Malay and Tamil undergraduate programmes) who do not have at least:

  • a Grade B4 in GCE ‘O’ level English Language, or
  • a Grade B4 in GCE ‘AO’ level General Paper, or
  • a Grade B4 in English Paper 121, 1120 or 1119 at SPM, or
  • a Grade C in Literature in English/English Language and Linguistics/Knowledge and Inquiry in GCE ‘A’ level /H2 level, or
  • a Grade C in H1 General Paper, or
  • a Grade 4 in English for IB Diploma holders, or
  • a CAP of 3.0 in English Language for NUS High School Diploma holders, or
  • an IELTS score of 6.5, or
  • a TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or 237 (computer-based) or 85 (internet-based)
will be required to complete the course SDE101 Essential English Skills and English Proficiency Assessment, by the end of their first term. This requirement does not apply to selected undergraduate programmes where the English Language requirement is an admission criterion.

Students who pass SDE101 will be considered as having met the English Language Proficiency (ELP) needs.
Students who fail SDE101 must complete four Language Enhancement Courses (LECs) that are specially designed to strengthen their English language skills and help them do better in their academic studies. However, they may attempt SDE101 again during their candidature to be exempted from taking the LECs, but will be limited to one attempt per term. The LECs cost between S$53.50 and S$107 (inclusive of GST).

Students are advised to take at least one LEC per term. Failure to complete SDE101 or any of the LECs may result in the restriction of the number of credit units the student is allowed to take in subsequent semesters.

Note: For qualifications with ^, applicant must also submit SAT I score (obtained in the last 5 years up to the programme application year) for consideration. However, SAT I scores are not required for admission application to Chinese, Malay and Tamil programmes.

Law Programmes

Admission Criteria

You must be a Singapore citizen, permanent resident or a resident in Singapore. In addition, you will need to meet these minimum requirements:

Bachelor of Laws (LLB)

  • Applicants to the LLB programme must have at least the GCE ‘A’ level with three passes (prior to 2006) or three H2 passes (from 2006), or a local Polytechnic Diploma or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or a NUS High School Diploma;
  • Demonstrate aptitude to practice law through taking the UK Law National Aptitude Test1
  • All applicants (other than fresh school leavers with ‘A’ Levels or diploma certificates) will be required to provide a full CV detailing their work experience as well.

Juris Doctor (JD)

  • Applicants to the JD programme must have at least a Bachelor’s degree AND substantial work experience;
  • Demonstrate aptitude to practice law through taking the UK Law National Aptitude Test1.
  • All applicants will be required to provide a full CV detailing their work experience as well.
