Anglo-Chinese School (Independent): National Competition 2019

We would like to invite your schools/JC to take part in the Odyssey of the Mind National Competition to be held on 5 – 6 April 2019 at ACS (Independent), 121 Dover Road, Singapore 139650. Odyssey of the Mind is the largest worldwide creative problem-solving competition for children and a wonderful enrichment activity to foster the development of creative thinking and problem-solving skills. The competition consists of Long-term problems and Spontaneous problems.

At the National Competition, the following prizes, based on number of teams registered, will be awarded:

4 to 5 teams Gold, Silver
6 or more teams Gold, Silver, Bronze

 

The top 2 winning teams from each division and problem at the National Competition will get to represent Singapore at the World Finals at Michigan State University May 22–25 2019.

NOTE: 

  1. All teams should be led by a trained coach.

 

  1. As this competition is run by volunteers, for each team you register, we seek your cooperation to nominate a suitable adult (teacher, parent or former OMers) to be a judge.

Registration for the National Competition 2019 should be done as soon as possible by sending the OOTM 2019 Registration Form to ootmsingapore@acsindep.edu.sg  Incomplete registration will not be accepted.

Soft copies of the problems and programme guide will be sent to you on receipt of your registration. Closing Date for registration is 15 February 2019.

To introduce our Primary 1 and 2 students to the creative problem-solving process and to prepare them for the Odyssey of the Mind competitions, we would like to invite teams comprising Primary 1 and 2 students to present their performance for the Primary Problem.  As it is a non-competitive problem, teams in the Primary Division will not be ranked and no prizes awarded.

 

The other levels are:

Primary 3-6 Division 1
Sec 1-2 Division 2
Sec 3-JC2 Division 3

Membership and Registration Fees

MembershipEach membership purchased allows an individual school to put together up to five (5) teams in any of the 5 Long-Term Problems in any division, i.e. 1 team per problem per division.

 

If your school has multiple teams, within the same division, competing in the same problem(s), you will need an additional membership.  Each school may purchase up to a maximum of 2 memberships only, i.e. a maximum of two (2) teams per problem per division.

 

NOTE:

a)     Membership fees will be waived for schools registering ONLY Primary Division teams.

b)    Membership name must be decided at the point of registration and may not be changed for the period of the competition (National and World Finals).

 

$75/- per membership
Team RegistrationEach team comprises 7 members and 1 coach (max. 2 coaches) $175/- per team

 

In addition, we are inviting all to take part in our Odyssey of the Mind 2019 T-shirt and Pin Design competition. Please submit all soft copy entries which should include the wordings “Odyssey of the Mind 2019, Singapore” to Odyssey of the Mind Organising Committee c/o  ootmsingapore@acsindep.edu.sg  by 30 November 2018. 

If yours is the winning design, you stand to win a special surprise gift and the satisfaction of seeing all OMers wearing your design!  Your winning pin design will also be exchanged with OMers around the world.  If there is no winning design, the Committee reserves the right to have one designed accordingly.
