MTFA Founders’ Scholarship

MTFA awards scholarships and bursaries to tertiary students.

The awards ceremony was held on 7th June 2014 at Darul Ihsan Girls’ Orphanage with His Excellency Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed, Singapore Ambassador to Kuwait & Foreign Minister’s Special Envoy to the Middle East gracing the event as the Guest-of-Honour.

This year, MTFA gave out a total of 6 scholarships and 127 bursaries. For the 4th year running, Muslimin Trust Fund Association (MTFA) has awarded scholarships to outstanding students in memory of the 7 founders of the organisation: Mr Syed Mohamed Alsagoff, Mr Syed Abdulcader Alsagoff, Mr Ahmad M. S. Angullia, Mr Mahboob Ellahi bin Fazal Ellahi, Mr M. Mohamed, Mr Mohamed Idid and Mr Hadjee Mohamed Hakim.

The aim of the MTFA Founders’ Scholarship is to engage and motivate students of high intellectual capacity, strong personal drive and with leadership qualities to take the lead in serving the needs of the Muslim community. It is hoped that the scholarship will assist them in achieving academic excellence through the pursuit of full-time undergraduate or post-graduate studies in top universities in Singapore or abroad.

2 scholarships worth $10,000 each was awarded to Mr Hairul Hakkim s/o Kuthibutheen and Ms Ijechi Nazirah Nazri Nwaozuzu, both pursuing a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in National University of Singapore.

A scholarship worth $7,000 was awarded to Ms Lee Hafsa Afandi pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with Honours in Nanyang Technological University. In addition, a scholarship worth $5,000 was awarded to Ms Nauar Binte Kuswadi, a student in Singapore Institute of Management (RMIT) pursuing a Bachelor of Business (Marketing). Lastly, 2 scholarships worth $3,000 each was awarded to Ms Nur Amalina Binte Saparin pursuing a Bachelor of Laws in Singapore Management University and Mr Mohammad Syarulnizam Bin Mohd Nasir pursuing Bachelor of Science in Architecture with Honours in Taylor’s University.

MTFA awarded $160,000 worth of bursaries to 33 local and overseas University students, 5 Junior College students, 49 Polytechnic students and 40 ITE students. The quantum for the University bursary was $2,000 and that of the rest was $1,000.

Application for Financial Assistance for 2017

MTFA provides Financial Assistance in the form of bi-monthly cash disbursements and food grocery packets to needy Muslim Families in Singapore.

Application for the MTFA Founders’ Scholarship & Bursary Awards 2017

The Application Period for the MTFA Founders’ Scholarship & Bursary Awards will be opened in the first half of 2017. You may download the Application Form online in this page when it becomes available. The Application Form provided will also contain information about the Award,  Eligibility Criteria and Supporting Document Checklist.

The MTFA Founders’ Scholarship is for Muslims who are pursuing full-time studies in institutes of higher learning, from all educational fields. MTFA is looking for applicants who display high intellectual capacity, strong personal drive and possess leadership qualities.

The MTFA Bursary is for needy full-time Muslim students from lower-income families who wish to pursue a course of study in institutes of higher learning.

The applicants for both the MTFA Founders’ Scholarship & Bursary Award must be either a Singaporean Citizen or a Permanent Resident.

Zakat

Zakat funds collected by MTFA are distributed under the Fakir, Miskin and Riqab asnafs to poor and needy Muslims, their children and orphans who are not residents of Darul Ihsan Orphanage. The diagram below shows the distribution of our Zakat asnaf:Asnaf

Bi-Monthly Disbursement

We organize bi-monthly Zakat distribution through monetary and food items disbursements. Fidyah funds are distributed in the form of food packages. Food packages are customized to suit the dietary needs of the chronically ill and elderly recipients.

MTFA Scholarship & Bursary

MTFA aims to provide financial assistance to Muslim students from lower-income families. Singapore citizens or permanent residents, pursuing full-time post-secondary education in Institutes of Higher Learning are welcome to apply.

In 2016, MTFA awarded $252,000 worth of bursaries to 230 tertiary students; $160,000 from Zakat funds and $92,000 from MTFA funds. MTFA also awarded $66,000 worth of Scholarships to 10 outstanding Muslim Tertiary students, which was more then double the 2015 total Scholarship Awards.
